The fundamental machine-learning question
Given examples of inputs and the outcomes they produced,
can we find a function that predicts the outcome for new inputs?
That function is the model. Everything else is detail.
Symbol: f(x) ≈ y
Applied frame
Ask what population the sample represents, what uncertainty remains, and how the estimate could drift.
Diagram cue
The diagram shows samples becoming estimates, with bias and variance kept visible.
Machine learning asks which function best maps inputs to desired outputs. Key motion beats: inputs, function, loss, outputs.
